Panther Boys Volleyball

Our coaching staff is focused on the principles of teaching advanced volleyball skills and fostering team unity.


 Varsity Coach: Jorge Ostrovsky                             
Head Coach Jorge Ostrovsky is returning for his eigth year leading the Panther Pack. Coach Ostrovsky was born in Argentina and came to the United States when he was 8years old. He did not begin playing volleyball until he was seventeen years old. After graduating Granada Hills High School, he began playing for California State University Northridge. He entered the
starting line up his freshman year and never looked back. While at CSUN he made First Team All League and his junior year he was selected the California State Most Valuable Player.
Coach Ostrovsky keeps his skills fresh by playing in both a club league and on the Los Angeles City Fire Department’s team. Last Summer his Department’s team took first place at the California Games and the Western States Games. His team has also taken first at the World Fire and Police Games. Coach’s daughter Natasha is a Senior and his son Alex is a freshman at NPHS.
Junior Varsity Coach: Glenn Mauerer
 
Coach Glenn Maurer has been coaching for NPHS since 22 years.  He first started, in 1986, as unpaid assistant to head coach Jeff Campbell (currently the head coach for the CSUN men's volleyball team).  He coached both the boy's and girl's program  for about ten years before focusing on the boy's team.  This will be Coach Glenn's eigth year as a paid coach for the boy's program.  Coach Glenn was a basketball player in both high school and college and caught the volleyball bug after joining the Los Angeles City Fire Department in 1975.  During his career, he has earned 29 gold, 6 silver and 9 bronze medals at the Fire Olympics.  He currently competes on both the LAFD team and on a seniors team.  Coach Glenn's Daughter Coleen played for the NPHS volleyball team in 1993 and 1994 and his son played from 1996 through 1999.  Coach Glenn retired in September of 2007 after serving the citizens of Los Angeles for 34 years.  Coach Glenn and Coach Jorge have played volleyball together for 27 years.ur

 Frosh Soph Coach: Tim Mayes 

Coach Tim returns for his second year as the Frosh/ Soph coach for Newbury Park.  Originally from Huntington Beach, California, he is a product of Orange County’s strong club volleyball system. Coach Tim played club volleyball for eight years, first with “Rip It Up” and later with club “Kokoro.”  He played his high school volleyball at Edison High School where he was a two year varsity standout as setter.  Following high school he played for Irvine Valley College, Westmont College, and Santa Barbara City College. He expanded his knowledge of volleyball by becoming a referee for the Channel Coast League for four seasons.

After moving to Ventura County, Coach Tim became the Oaks Christian JV coach during the 2004 and 2005 seasons. During the off season he coaches the under 16 team for “Shoten” club. He currently resides in Newbury Park and is a financial consultant, specializing in public school retirement programs.
